The petroleum lease, PL2002-01, allows for the production of hydrocarbons from an onshore area on the Port au Port Peninsula, western Newfoundland. The lease was issued in 2002, and is the first and only onshore production lease granted by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
PL2002-01 contains the discovered field, Garden Hill South, as well as two other leads, Garden Hill Central and Garden Hill North. In 2010, initial sedimentalogical and geochemical studies were performed on PL2002-01 which indicated the presence of a further possible lead.
PDI Production Inc. (PDIP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Enegi Oil Plc, re-entered the PaP#1 well in January 2007, and groundwork for a seismic survey has commenced, which included cutting of seismic lines. PL2002-01 was subsequently extended until August 12th 2008 subject to the following conditions:
- Commencement of a drilling program of at least C$10million no later than August 12th 2008
- Payment of C$500,000 as deposit against the drilling program.
PDIP met these conditions and PL2002-01 was subsequently extended for the remainder of its initial term, which expires on the 12th August 2012.
